Our Restoration Process

A proven step-by-step approach that delivers exceptional results every time

1

Initial Assessment & Consultation

Every project begins with a thorough evaluation of your furniture piece. We examine the wood type, construction method, existing finish, and any structural issues. This assessment helps us determine the best restoration approach and provide you with an accurate timeline and cost estimate.

We discuss your vision for the finished piece, preferred stain colors, and any historical significance we should preserve during the restoration process.

Disassembly & Preparation

We carefully disassemble pieces when necessary, documenting each component for reassembly. Hardware is removed, cataloged, and cleaned or replaced as needed. The workspace is prepared with proper ventilation and safety equipment for the stripping process.

Special attention is paid to preserving original joinery methods and any maker's marks or signatures that add to the piece's historical value.

3

Professional Stripping

Using eco-friendly chemical strippers and traditional hand-scraping techniques, we remove old finishes layer by layer. This process reveals the natural wood grain and allows us to assess the wood's condition for any necessary repairs.

We use different stripping methods depending on the wood type and finish - from gentle citrus-based strippers for delicate veneers to stronger solutions for multiple paint layers.

Repair & Restoration

Any structural repairs are completed using traditional joinery methods and matching wood types. We fix loose joints, replace damaged veneers, fill gouges and scratches, and address any stability issues.

For upholstered pieces, we replace worn springs, padding, and webbing while preserving the original construction techniques and proportions.

5

Finishing & Protection

We apply carefully selected stains and finishes that enhance the wood's natural beauty while providing long-lasting protection. Multiple coats of high-quality polyurethane or traditional shellac create a durable, beautiful finish.

Each coat is hand-sanded between applications to achieve a perfectly smooth, professional finish that will protect your furniture for decades to come.
